Synon/Financials is the new generation of Financial Management applications. It has been specifically engineered to help companies meet the challenges of the 90's and beyond, to exploit their competitive advantage, identify new markets, and keep pace with trading conditions. A 'clean sheet' development of the '90s, Synon/Financials carries none of the baggage of conventional accounting systems. Problems such as not being able to post into next or previous months, having to use batch updates that shut systems down, or requiring separate updates for AR, AP, Cash book and then G/L, are all consigned to the trash can of history. Its unique architecture is predicated on real financial management requirements and fundamental accounting principles, totally re-engineering the financial management process to provide significant commercial and operational benefits. Synon/Financials jettisons the unacceptable constraints of those legacy packages with separate A/P, A/R and G/L which are little more than computerized implementations of the mechanical card accounting machines that were popular in the 1930's, 40's and 50's.

Synon/Financials is a suite of four highly integrated applications that supports accounts payable and receivable, cash management, budgeting, general ledger, and management and financial reporting. The applications are designed to work as one system, extremely adaptable to support the needs of the business, consistent throughout, and easily restructured to follow dynamic organizations and changing needs. Synon/Financials incorporates key design features that differentiate it from traditional financial management application software:

  • Integration - Synon/Financials' design reflects the view that cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processing must be tightly integrated. In Synon/Financials there is one transaction routine for entering cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger transactions. Users can custom define the transactions the system is to process, control which screens are displayed for each transaction, and even add fields without any re-programming A single entry updates the general ledger, amounts due and owed, and cash balances immediately, eliminating redundant entry, delays, inconsistency, and the need for reconciliation.

Structure - Synon/Financials' account numbering is independent of the ledger structure and the reporting structure. This means that an elaborate and rigid chart-of-accounts numbering scheme can be abandoned in favor of simple, meaningful identities. You define ledger and reporting structure separately, with two major benefits: Multiple reporting structures can exist at the same time, for example, by company, by division, by product line, by geography, across divisions or products, and so on. As the organization or the reporting needs change, the account numbering system does not get in the way. You can simply change the reporting structure, leaving the account numbering as it is.

Flexibility - Additional flexibility results from the high level of user-set definitions within Synon/Financials. For example, aging schedules can be defined for each type of trading partner, and user defined payment terms can be assigned to individual trading partners or as defaults for a group of trading partners. Reporting (accounting) periods can be as small as one day or larger than one year. Small periods can be grouped together into a hierarchical structure for weekly, monthly, quarterly, or even non-contiguous periods such as Januarys for the last five years.

Drill-down - You can start an on-screen inquiry at any level, then easily uncover successive layers of detail by selecting the item of interest and "drilling" down to the detail. Trace the sources of a balance through all levels of summarization, down to the original transaction and its audit stamp.

Security - Synon/Financials contains its own security sub-system with five separate levels (four of which are optional) to provide full control of access to financial data. Overall access control, by task, by company, and more.
